A Scottish colloquialism for Hell, The Bad Fire draws inspiration from a series of tough personal moments that the band found themselves in following on from their chart-topping tenth album, As The Love Continues. The album opener āGod Gets You Backā sounds like Daft Punk being hunted by My Bloody Valentine, while āFanzine Made Of Fleshā sounds like a victory parade for a baby yeti; and āLion Rumpusā does actually sound like a lion rumpus. The music of Mogwai is a difficult thing to describe, but an easy thing to experience. It may have been created in dark conditions, but all that is transcended by the act of four musicians working together here, now, in the moment ā the only place where Mogwai exist.
