Adam Buxton - Buckle Up
British Writer, comedian and podcast host Adam Buxton releases his debut music album âBuckle Upâ on Decca Records.
The album sees Buxton collaborating with Metronomyâs Joe Mount (as lead producer) and The Vaccinesâ Pete Robertson.
When Decca approached Buxton to make his first solo album, five years ago, the label didnât realise they were dealing with a âmaster of self-deluded overcomplicationâ.
He told them he wanted âBerlin-period Bowie and Eno going for lunch with Radiohead and Nina Simone at Brian Wilsonâs beach brasserie.â
He told them he wanted a Bulgarian choir, too. Then he enlisted Metronomyâs Joe Mount as producer: âI hoped it would be a Metronomy record with my voice!â None of these plans materialised.
Instead came Buckle Up, fifteen songs in which Buxton is inescapably, and beautifully, himself.
âYou inhabit the uncanny valley between funny and sincere,â advised Greenwood, âand Iâm not sure anyoneâs ever made that work.â
Buxton has come to accept that the uneasy balance between funny and sincere might be what he does best.
âThat encapsulates everything Iâve ever done,â he admits.
âEfforts to be thoughtful undermined by silliness, and vice versaâ.
